There will soon be charging stations available in 10 percent of all parking lots in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, the city’s construction group announced recently in its plans.

Harbin City Construction Investment Group (HCCIG) has made great efforts to invest in the new energy sector.

The group has founded a company together with the information communication company ZTE, in order to promote the construction of charging infrastructure and solve difficulties surrounding the charging of batteries in new energy vehicles (NEV).

HCCIG has so far built 23 charging stations in two parking lots at government offices. Meanwhile, the company will build another 151 charging stations for other government offices. The charging station construction work will commence in public parking lots, such as those for supermarkets, shopping malls, and parks.

The company will also concentrate on building an intelligent technological charging platform, according to Zhou Xin, an assets operation manager for HCCIG. The platform will share information on battery charging for NEVs, and car owners can use a mobile phone APP to search navigation information, make reservations for charging, and make payments, he said.

This platform will maximize the use of city resources according to Zhou. On the one hand, it can ease the difficulties in finding a charging station, on the other hand, it will also promote the construction of an intelligent city, he added.

Harbin issued a circular earlier this year to promote the usage of new energy vehicles and industry development.
