Harbin’s CPI up 2% in October

The northeastern city of Harbin’s inflation rate has matched the national average for October, at 2 percent, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The price of consumer goods was 1.9 percent higher than during the same period last year, while the price of services was up 2.1 percent. This is consistent with the nationwide trend at 2.1 percent in October.
 
However, prices in culture (leisure, education), and food grew more quickly, increasing 5.6 percent, 3 percent year-on-year, respectively.
 
Vegetable prices rose the most sharply in October, followed by seafood, with a respective year-on-year increase of 6.5 percent and 6.2 percent.
 
Consumers’ transport and communications costs have decreased compared to last year with prices down 0.8 percent. The cost of necessities also fell by 0.2 percent year-on-year.

Harbin ramps up childcare services

A new comprehensive service center for childcare in Harbin is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
