Harbin ice sculptures were displayed on Nov 11 at the Ice Land Ice Sculpture, a holiday attraction run by Moody Garden in Galveston, Texas.

Members of the audience and the media were astonished to see such delicate ice sculptures created by Chinese artists.

Since 2014, Harbin ice sculptures have been displayed at Moody Garden. This year, more than 100 colorful ice sculptures were created by 28 ice sculptors in 45 days using 5,000 blocks of ice.

Nov 11 marked the media open day for the ice sculpture exhibition, which officially opened to the public on Nov 12 and will run until Jan 8, 2017.

The exhibition is being held in a pavilion covering an area of 2,600 square meters. The pieces include carved corals and marine organisms, as well as submarines and bars. The tallest ice sculpture measures more than 10 meters.

Ice sculptor Fan Yongqiang, who is attending the Galveston event for the third year, said that it's more of a challenge to carve coral, boats, and fish.

"We used colored ice, transitional colors and special coloring techniques," he said.

Fang went on to say that if the ice blocks were put together, they would measure more than seven kilometers. If they are stacked together, they will measure as high as 24 Eiffel Towers, he claimed.

The park will get 100,000 to 150,000 visitors this holiday season, Jerri Hamachek, marketing manager at Moody Garden, estimated.
