Tencent, China's leading Internet company, opened its first makerspace in Northeast China’s Harbin, Heilongjiang province on Nov 16.

More than 20 teams of entrepreneurs signed contracts on the day to settle in the makerspace to develop projects in robotics, virtual reality technologies and the culture industry.

All startups registered in this makerspace can obtain resources both online and offline from Tencent, and those that qualify can also apply for special funds, ranging from 10,000 yuan ($1,455) to 300,000 yuan.

This makerspace is located at No 9 Songshan Road, Nangang District, and covers an area of 5,000 square meters.

About 510 office cubicles will be provided as well as other hardware facilities, including conference rooms, multi-function exhibition rooms, and refreshments.

A variety of activities will be held on a regular basis including salons, investment roadshows, and outdoor entertainment.

Those lucky entrepreneurs will be given a red envelop containing 1,000 yuan to 2 million yuan. The money can be used to buy financial services and other kinds of products from the Tencent platform. The founders of startup companies can apply for the red envelop online after registration on the Tencent open platform.
