The retail price of pork hit 28.22 yuan ($4.1) per kilogram, up 2.92 percent compared with last week, according to data from the local statistics bureau.
The price of pork reached a record high of 31.9 yuan per kilogram at Harbin farmer’s market in June this year. However, the price has gradually fallen since July. By Nov 4, the price had fallen to 26.78 yuan per kilogram.
Now, with the cold winter weather, there has been increasing demand for the meat, and the price has again increased.
Pig slaughterhouses and meat processing firms are now purchasing more of the animals. Industry insiders expect that the demand for pork will be on the rise for the foreseeable future.
