A total of 500,000 wood frogs were produced at the Shanhe Experimental Frog Farm last year in Harbin, yielding a profit of 2.6 million yuan ($376,000).

The farm, which is located in Songfengshan town in Acheng District, has made vigorous efforts to construct an artificial breeding ground for frogs over the past several years.

The Shanhe Experimental Frog Farm has rich resources, and there are a large variety of edible insects for the frogs.

Also, farmers are enthusiastic about breeding at the center rather than on land managed by the government.

The number of households raising the frogs has now increased to 34 from only four in the past.

Meanwhile, the number of artificial incubation pools for frogs has now increased to 280 and the number of hibernating pools for frogs has increased to 120.

About 83 percent of the forest area the farm is located in, is now used for frog breeding, covering an area of 9,099 hectares, compared to only 1,871 hectares previously.
