The first winter games for teenagers from China and Russia began on Dec 6, and will last until Dec 11.

A total of 117 athletes are attending the games, which include five competition events, including figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, short-track speed skating, and alpine skiing.

The event is being held to enhance sport and cultural exchanges between teenagers from China and Russia.

At the opening ceremony held on Dec 6, acrobatic, dancing and skiing performances were given by the Heilongjiang Acrobatic Troupe, Harbin Ice Sports Training Center and Harbin Sport University.

Heilongjiang is a key province for ice and snow events, and also a hub for China-Russia exchanges. Since most of the athletes participating in the event are from Heilongjiang; Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang was chosen as the host city.

During the event, Chinese and Russian teenagers will enjoy sharing their respective cultures. It will not only enhance the friendship of athletes from both countries, but also will benefit the development of athletes taking part in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games hosted by Beijing and Zhangjiangkou.

Before the opening ceremony, a cultural exchange activity was held to showcase Chinese traditional culture, such as carving, traditional music and Chinese calligraphy.
