Harbin ice and snow festival opens

The opening ceremony for the 33rd Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival (HIISF) was held in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, on Jan 4, 2016.
The following day, the Global City Ice and Snow Tourism Cooperation Organization Preparation Conference along with the second China International Ice and Snow Tourism Summit will also be held in the northeastern city.
Officials and businesspeople from international organizations, chambers of commerce and companies from more than 30 countries, including Russia, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Germany and Singapore, attended the opening ceremony and related activities.
As one of the world’s largest ice festivals, the event will feature snow sculptures, ice lanterns, winter swimming and a dog sledding competition.
The festival will run until Feb 25, when the ice and snow start to melt.
