Harbin station sees record passengers

Harbin Railway Bureau handled around 2.33 million travelers during the Spring Festival travel rush (Jan 27 – Feb 2), an increase of 250,000 compared with the same period last year, according to statistics relesed by Harbin Railway Bureau.

On Feb 2, the last day of the Spring Festival holiday, about 530,000 travelers passed through the station, an increase of 21,300 people year-on-year.

To meet travel demand during the Spring Festival holiday, Harbin Railway Bureau operated 387 trains traveling to popular destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and Nanjing.

In particular, on Feb 2, an extra 67 trians were added to send passengers from Harbin to various popluar destinations.

Eleven high-speed trains traveling to Beijing were also operated for the first time from Harin West Railway Station

Six high-speed trains traveled every hour from this station during peak time, and at one point four trains ran in a single 18-minute period. It is the first time the station has had such a high volume of high-speed trains traveling to Beijing during the Spring Festival travel rush.

To ensure the smooth running of services, Harbin Railway Bureau opened 24-hour ticket counters and added 81 ticket machines at its train stations.

Meanwhile, the railway department also provided WiFi services for travelers in 19 train stations and 3,400 trains.

During the Spring Festival period, Harbin Railway Bureau also operated trains solely for tourists traveling to Heihe, an ice and snow tourist destination in Heilongjiang province.
