Harbin has been ranked one of the top 10 most popular tourist destinations for lovers to visit on Valentine’s Day, according to a report published by Ctrip, China’s leading online travel agency.
Traveling to a romantic destination for Valentine’s Day has become a popular activity among young people.
According to the 2017 Tourist Consumer Report on Valentine’s Day, Sanya in Hainan province topped the list of the most popular tourist destinations for lovers, followed by Xiamen in Fujian province, and Kunming in Yunnan province.
According to a survey conducted by Ctrip before the festival, 24 percent of young couples prefer to travel somewhere for the day. Because this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on a working day, many people chose to ask for leave from their companies. Domestic travel and short outbound trips have become a popular option for those who can afford it.
For inbound tourism, tourists prefer to choose warm islands and places with a pristine natural environment.
Around 6,000 yuan ($874) was spent by young tourists traveling on Valentine’s Day. Those who traveled abroad accounted for around 55 percent, according to the report.
The report also shows that people born since the beginning of the 1990s make up 31 percent of the total.
Meanwhile, wealthy middle-aged people also appear to be pursuing romantic experiences, and they have become a key consumer group.
