Intellectual property rights have been a regular topic of discussion at the two sessions for the past few years.

Mei Zhangji, a deputy to the National People's Congress, suggested that China should establish an innovative trademark administration system and enhance trademark protection in key industries.

Mei is also the production manager of Laocunzhang Winery in Heilongjiang.

Mei believes that China lacks the information technology to improve management efficiency and quality. Usually, people have to wait around 12 months to check trademark information online after applying to register a trademark.

"Trademark infringement cases often occur in some industries, especially involving consumable products," Mei said.

Mei suggested improving trademark information database management by utilizing new technologies. Meanwhile, he urged swift punishment for trademark infringement in key industries where cases often occur.
