Harbin martyrs' cemetery saw an increased number of visitors to commemorate deceased heroes prior to China's Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, which falls on April 4.

The number of visitors who mourned the deceased at Harbin martyrs' cemetery this week increased by 20 percent compared with the same period last year, according to data from the cemetery authority.

"Around 50 groups of people from all walks of life have come to pay their respects to the deceased in the cemetery every day since March 27," said Cao Yin, vice-director of the cemetery.

"The peak number of visitors is expected to be recorded on March 30 or March 31, when the number of visitors who mourn the deceased will exceed 20,000 each day," she said.

Built in 1948, Harbin martyrs' cemetery is located in Dongli district, and covers an area of 40,000 square meters.

Buried here are deceased heroes from the Agrarian Revolutionary War (1927-1937), the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), and the War of Liberation (1945-1949).
