Harbin will make great efforts to ensure food safety as it has launched a program to build a national demonstration city for food safety.
Local areas are encouraged to establish hospitals especially for foodborne diseases, according to a plan on food safety.
The plan also called for making school food safety an important part of school safety work and building a principal accountability system for food safety.
In order to enhance the inspection of agricultural food and meat, we have to make full use of third-party examination resources, the plan said.
Meanwhile, the plan urged the enhancement of food safety inspection for agricultural product wholesale markets, supermarkets, kindergartens, and schools.
Furthermore, Harbin has also issued a method and made a fund to reward those who make complaints on food safety issues.
Food safety demonstration sites will be built in key areas such as Harbin Central Avenue, Sun Island, and Ice and Snow World.
The program also bans the planting of transgenic corn, rice, and beans.
