Northeast China’s Harbin has recently conducted surveys of its rivers and lakes in an effort to promote the river management system in the city.
The water management department in the city has classified all its rivers and lakes, and recorded information regarding the water quality.
A leading group has been established at the city level to promote the river management system in order to reduce water pollution.
Guidelines to establish a four-level river management system have been issued by the government of Harbin, calling for the establishment of different management systems for provinces, cities, counties and towns.
This step has been made in an effort to echo the country’s guidelines on overall implementation of the river management system issued late last year.
According to the guidelines, river managers, usually government officials, will be responsible for the management and protection of certain waterways.
