China’s Man ethnic group has its own language, but unfortunately it is gradually disappearing. However, the language is set to receive a boost following the decision of Harbin’s Acheng district government to allow schools to teach it.

Nancheng Primary School has recently started offering Manchu language classes, as well as physical education and music classes taught in the Manchu language. The lessons have been well-received by students and there is a demand for more Manchu language instruction.

Xu Yang is a pupil from Nancheng Primary School. She was very curious about the language and has taken the opportunity to study it at her school.

“Now I can write many words in the Manchu language,” she said proudly.

“I am really happy that our school now offers Manchu language classes, and I will work harder than other students to learn this language,” said Meng Zhuo, who is from the Man ethic group.

Zhao Ye, a Manchu language teacher, has developed a teaching method that can help people learn the language quickly.

“After one month, students can read simple Manchu words, write their names, and speak simple sentences after being taught using my method,” he said.

“I believe there will be more and more students who can speak fluent Manchu in the near future,” he added.

There are nearly 10 million Manchus in China, however there are no more than 100 people who can speak the Manchu language fluently.
