As a provincial base for patriotism education, Xiao Hong’s former residence in Harbin has been integrating education in socialist core values into its development and guiding young people to develop a belief  in socialism with Chinese characteristics.

The former residence in the capital of Heilongjiang province has been offering cultural exchanges and is dedicated to exploring its rich cultural resources and staging special demonstrations.

To help in the bid for the award, Xiao Hong’s former residence has made annual plans based on socialist core values and is carrying out the values of "patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship".

The life and works of Xiao Hong have inspired people of all generations, and her former residence was converted into a base for patriotism education. More than 20 universities, middle and elementary schools arrange trips to the house every year and free onsite interpreters tell stories about Xiao Hong's life.

The facilities at Xiao Hong’s former residence emphasize the development of a spiritual civilization. It also has a clean, beautiful garden that attracts tourists every summer.

Every year the provincial and municipal fire corps sends staff members to the house to promote fire safety awareness and organize fire safety sessions for citizens from the nearby community.

In 2016, which was both the 105th anniversary of Xiao Hong's birth and the 30th anniversary of the founding of Xiao Hong Former Residence, the house hosted three major celebrations, six exhibitions of calligraphy and painting and three poetry readings. In 2017, there have been activities such as lectures on the 76th anniversary of Xiao Hong's death, a poetry reading for the 106th anniversary of her birth, and photography and calligraphy exhibitions on her works.
