The 670-MW supercritical coal-fired power station project in Banten Province, Indonesia was recently officially delivered to Malaysia-based Genting Energy Limited, providing more evidence of China’s growing global influence on the manufacturing sector.
With investment from both Genting Energy Limited and China SDIC Power Holdings Co, the Wandan power station project is located in the northwest of Java island and about 110 kilometers away from Indonesia’s capital city –– Jakarta.
The gross installed capacity of the power station project is 670 MW, which is estimated to generate 4.36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. The operation of the new power station will provide continuous and reliable power for Java island, and improve the energy infrastructure of the island.
The Banten power station project started construction in December 2013, with Harbin Electric Corporation being the EPC contractor of the whole project.
“Engineering, procurement, and construction" (EPC) is a particular form of contracting arrangement used in some industries where the EPC contractor is made responsible for all the activities from design, procurement, and construction, to commissioning and handover of the project to the end-user or owner.
Harbin Electric Corporation (HE), established in 1951, is a generator equipment manufacturing giant in China. HE was responsible for the design, procurement, construction and debugging of Banten power station, maintaining international standards to assure the quality of the project.
All the boilers, steam turbines and generators in the power plant were also produced by subsidiaries of HE.
The power station commenced commercial operations in March, following Harbin Electric Corporation’s completion of the Indonesian Baitong supercritical coal-fired power station project.
