China-Russia culture festival to open in Harbin

Harbin, in Heilongjiang province, will hold the second China-Russia culture and art festival from Aug 5-12, to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Jointly organized by Harbin and CCTV, the opening ceremony on Aug 5 will be held in Harbin Grand Theater, and broadcast on the CCTV literary channel. Performances including Russian dancing, singing, acrobatics and kung fu will take place.
The eight-day event will feature six sections with more than 100 cultural activities, including the second China-Russia chorus festival, Russian film exhibitions, Chinese and Russian painting exhibitions, a fashion culture festival, square dancing competition, and ballet.
Fifteen world-class performances will be put on for Harbin residents, including a symphony concert conducted by Zubin Mehta, a world-renowned conductor.
The festival will promote Harbin as a “music city”, as well as deepen cultural exchanges between China and Russia, and promote the cultures of the two countries to the world.
