The north station building of Harbin Railway Station is scheduled to be put into service by the end of this month, providing a better rail service for passengers thanks to its advanced facilities.

Currently, the station building is in its last stage of construction. A total of 19 elevators in the building have been installed, and about 90 percent of the interior decoration has been finished. It is anticipated that the whole building will be completed on Aug 20.

The north station building consists of one underground level and three levels above ground, according to Zhang Xu, who is in charge of construction work at the station.

The underground floor is for parking, and the first floor will be used for ticketing, management, and security checks, and the above floors will be used as waiting rooms and services areas, Zhang added.

The newly-built station will also be equipped with the most advanced facial recognition security system to improve efficiency.

Also, the north square of Harbin railway station will finish construction and open at the same time as the station building, which means that the previous south station building will close and then be rebuilt.
