The 2017 Harbin International Marathon concluded in Harbin, Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province on Aug 26, Harbin Daily reported.
About 30,000 running enthusiasts from 31 countries and regions gathered in Harbin in early autumn to compete in the race.
With long-distance running becoming increasingly popular in China, the Harbin event, sponsored by the government of Harbin, Heilongjiang Sports Bureau, and China Track and Field Association, provided participants with a unique experience as the route takes in the Songhua River which has stunning, photogenic scenery.
The sponsors hope that the marathon will help put Harbin on the map.
Runners could choose between a full marathon (42 kilometers), a half marathon (21 km) and a mini marathon (5 km).
After a fierce race, a runner from Kenya won first prize for the male full marathon with a time of 2hr 19 min 10 sec; and a runner from Changchun city in Jilin province won first prize for the male full marathon with a time of 2:57:15.
It was the second time that this kind of race has been held in Harbin. This year’s marathon, which lasted 160 minutes, was broadcast by CCTV Channel Five.
