Excavation work at Qixiangtai Station on Harbin’s metro line 2 started on Sept 10, marking rapid progress made on construction of the new metro line.

Qixiangtai Station is the terminal station of the first-stage of metro line 2, which is 465.5-meters long.

One shield tunneling machine will be put into service at Qixiangtai Station to excavate the tunnel connecting the station and Shenyang Agricultural University Station. Another machine will start work at Shenyang Agricultural University Station in mid-October. Two machines will excavate between the two stations at a speed of 14.4 meters per day. It is anticipated that the stations will be connected before Spring Festival next year.

The planned metro line 2 starts from Songbei Daxuecheng Station, and ends at Qixiangtai Station in Xiangfang district. A total of 19 stations will dot the metro line. The line will play an important role in connecting key points along the north-southeast route.

The whole metro line is estimated to be ready to commence trial operations by the end of 2020.
