Taiyang Island in Harbin will enjoy a central heating system this winter after a replacement of its previous coal-fired boilers.

The project which was completed on Oct 12 after four months of construction guarantees central heating for households covering some 350,000 square meters on Taiyang Island. It will improve air quality and protect the environment on the island.

In line with the promotion of clean energy as an alternative for heating advocated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Harbin Songbei High-Tech Zone decided to improve the heating system on Taiyang Island –– a 5A-level scenic spot which is located on the north bank of Harbin’s Songhua River.

The central heating pipelines start from the central heating center of Jieneng Heating Co, passes under Songhua River before finally arriving at Taiyang Island.

The pipeline is 2,000 meters long, of which 600 meters is buried under the riverbed of Songhua River.
