Aluminum alloy manufactured by the Harbin-based branch of Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO) will be used to make the wall panels of aircraft wings on the COMAC C919, China's first domestically produced large passenger aircraft.

With a standard range of 4,075 kilometers, the narrow-body C919 aircraft is comparable with the updated Airbus 320 and Boeing's new generation 737 planes, signaling the country's entry into the global aviation market.

Information from CHALCO Northeast China Light Alloy Co, a company conducting magnesium and aluminum alloy processing, reveals that its newly-developed aluminum alloy has passed an assessment, reaching the necessary standard for use in the C919 aircraft.

The aluminum alloy has qualities such as high tensity and weighs less compared with the traditional types. It’s a remarkable breakthrough in producing lightweight materials for the aviation sector.

The use of domestically-produced aluminum alloy in the C919 aircraft will replace the aluminum alloy purchased abroad, cutting reliance on imported materials, said a manager from CHALCO Northeast China Light Alloy Co.

It is not yet known when domestically-produced aluminum alloy will be used in the C919 aircraft.
