The Sanya branch of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University established a stand to offer medical services to elderly residents who were formerly residents of Heilongjiang province, at a community located in Jiusuo town, Sanya city, Hainan province, on Oct 31.
Jiusuo town is the most popular destination for elderly people who have moved to Hainan from Harbin, partly because of the lower cost of housing, with 50,000 former residents of Harbin living in the area.
Despite the lower housing costs, the elderly in Jiusuo are faced with traveling a long distance to see doctors. It usually takes almost an hour for them to reach their nearest hospital.
Therefore, the hospital has established a medical station for the elderly living nearby. It also offers a free bus service for those who want to go to hospital.
The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University established a branch in Sanya in early 2017. Since its establishment, the hospital has organized several such activities in local communities. It plans to set up more medical stations to offer help to local residents in Sanya.
