Sun Mingchen, a 16-year-old senior high school student from Harbin, won the championship of the N12 Open Group of the China Karting Championship (CKC), which concluded in Zhuzhou, central China’s Hunan province on Nov 11.

CKC is a prestigious annual karting competition in China. The competition is divided into groups N7, N12, N14, and N35 according to the ages of the contestants.

Sun came first in the national competition for teenagers.

The student started racing at the age of 12 and performed well in Chinese karting competitions between 2014 and 2017.

He rose to prominence in 2016 when he won the championship of the CKC N12 Newcomers Group after coming third in 2015. In this year’s CKC, Sun won three championships and was the runner up three times at the six CKC regional competition stations. He eventually won the championship in the final national competition.

This marked the last time Sun will compete with teenagers. He will enter the adult group of the CKC to compete against opponents around the country the following year.

Although Sun has achieved great results in the CKC, he claims he does not plan to become a professional driver before he finishes college.
