T2 terminal at Harbin Taiping International Airport is expected open by the end of this year, giving the airport an unprecedented service capacity.

The project is divided into two phases. The first phase covers an area of 130,000 square meters. It will commence operations by the end of this year, when all domestic passengers will depart from T2 terminal.

The second phase will not start operations until all the domestic services transfer from T1 terminal to T2 terminal. The phase includes a 30,000 -square-meter building area, the upgrading work of T1 terminal and a ground parking lot covering an area of 103,000 square meters.

Harbin airport will have two terminals when all the construction work is completed in 2019 –– T1 terminal for international passengers and T2 terminal for domestic passengers.

Due to its advantageous location in the center of Northeast Asia, Harbin airport is expected to become a key hub for flights linking China and Russia’s Far East.

During 2020, it is estimated that the airport will have an annual passenger throughput of 18 million people, and an annual cargo throughput of 175,000 tons, satisfying the increasing tourism and cargo transportation demands between China and Russia.

Along with the growth of service capacity, Harbin airport is also utilizing technology to improve its services.

To guarantee the safety of cars, the upgraded Harbin airport will use snow-melting equipment on the surrounding roads to melt snow and ice during the long winter months.

In addition, the roofs of the buildings at Harbin airport will all use thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) waterproof material. The material will keep the roofs clean and dry while also being able to withstand high winds.
