A total of 12 stela stones with dragon carvings were salvaged from Songhua River in Harbin, Heilongjiang province on May 17, according to the government of Yilan county.
The dragon carvings on the stones represent ancient beliefs about entering an afterlife after death.
It is thought that the stones are from Sanxing Confucius Temple, which was built in 1782 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Currently, all the salvaged stones are being held in a secure location and are awaiting authentication by experts.
