Farmers in Harbin will soon be able to monitor their rice paddies using remote sensing technology from Beidou Quality Traceability System.

It is thought that the new system will dramatically improve rice quality from the local area.

At the moment this will just be a trial for the Harbin area, but in time we hope to expand the system to the whole Northeast China region, said Lu Xinxian, chairman of Harbin Zhongmi Technology Investment Group.

According to an agreement signed by Shenzhen Jinjia Group, Shenzhen Allystar Technology Co and Harbin Zhongmi Technology Investment Group at the 9th China Satellite Navigation Conference on May 23, the rice paddies in Harbin to have the new monitoring equipment installed will cover an area totaling 9.35 million mu (623,333 hectares).

Farmers and companies using the system will be able to adjust their agricultural production according to monitoring data provided by the new system.

Harbin is known for its high-quality rice brands such as Wuchang Rice, Fangzheng Rice and Yanshou Rice. The adoption of the monitoring system is expected to further improve rice quality and output, promoting Harbin’s rice bands in China and beyond.
