Harbin summer music festival kicks off

The 34th Summer of Harbin Music Festival was unveiled in Harbin, “Capital City of Music” in China, on Aug 6. The festival will last until Aug 20.
Initiated in 1961, Summer of Harbin Music Festival has become one of the most prestigious city musical events in China.
The festival, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Harbin municipal government, will help boost the integration of professional performances with popular cultural activities.
The festival will also further promote the city as a tourist destination, by tapping the potential of the city’s history, culture, beautiful scenery and pleasant summer climate.
This year’s event will be guided by the government with participants coming from all walks of life. The concert includes various performances. It includes two performances at the opening and closing ceremony, the 13th National Vocal Music Performance, the 2018 Schoenfeld International String Competition and an international accordion art week.
Meanwhile, the festival will also feature other performances designed to appeal to mass audiences. There will be 50 venues set across Harbin to present theatrical performances for local residents and tourists, attracting performers from both home and abroad.
Additionally, during the festival, renowned domestic singers such as Yan Weiwen, Liu Weiwei, Sun Nan and Cai Guoqing will take the role of music mentors to guide professional vocal music performers and singing lovers.
At the opening ceremony of the festival held on Aug 6, classic performances including zhuixun, buwangchuxin, Sun Island, Summer of Harbin were staged, to a rapturous reception from the audience.
