A new logistics center is being set up in the district of Shuangcheng in Harbin, established by Shenzhen-based Wanke Logistics Development Co Ltd. The company recently obtained a land use permit, only 100 days after signing a cooperation agreement with the local authorities in November last year.
According to the company, construction of the facility is scheduled to begin on May 1.
The center will cover an area of 200,000 square meters and will utilize high-end digital equipment and industrial robots. The total cost of the center is expected to be 1 billion yuan ($148.8 million).
The new logistics center will serve an estimated 1 million households in Heilongjiang and will employ more than 450 people. Meanwhile, it is estimated that the logistics park will contribute annual tax revenue of 45 million yuan to local government.
Shuangcheng district was chosen as the site of the new center because of its huge demand for logistics services, to handle more than 3 billion kilograms of grain output per year and serve the local 50 billion yuan food industry.
Officials said that in particular, the lack of cold chain logistics has greatly restricted the rapid development to supply high-quality vegetables and fresh livestock products in Shuangcheng.
