The Technology Innovation Entrepreneur Summit Forum -- part of the 21st Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology -- was held in Harbin, capital city of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, on June 29.

The forum, with its theme “innovation and revitalization”, aimed to provide revitalization solutions for the old Northeast China industrial base by taking advantages of innovative technologies and the upgrading of the region’s industrial structure.

The old industrial base – comprising Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces -- was among the first regions in China to become industrialized. Its traditional industries include steel, automobiles, shipbuilding and petroleum refining. China has pledged to rejuvenate the northeast region through more reforms and economic restructuring.

Hot topics were discussed by scientists, entrepreneurs and investors at the forum, including "a new era of information technology, a new engine of industrial innovation". Others were "the industrialization of technical standards and the development of independent chip applications," "intelligent economy helps industries and society to upgrade and transform across generations,” and “entrepreneurship and innovation".

Huai Jinpeng, Party secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology, said at the forum that innovation is the theme of the era and the basic element of sustainable social development. Huai expressed his hopes that the forum would serve as a platform to boost technological innovation and the application of technologies in industries.
