An event to promote the publication of the 2019 edition of the White Paper on China's Foreign Affairs was held in Harbin, the capital city of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, on July 30.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the governments of Heilongjiang province and Harbin city, as well as journalists from the major Chinese media attended the event.
The document, compiled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a white paper on China's diplomacy. It provides readers with a comprehensive explanation of China's foreign policy and its stance on international affairs. It also offers a systematic review of China's foreign relations over the past year.
Since its first publication in 1987, the paper has been published on an annual basis, both for Chinese and foreign readers. To enable more readers to acquire an in-depth understanding of China's foreign policy, the edition has had a fully translated text in Chinese and English since 2014.
Because of its authority, integrity, and continuity, the White Paper on China's Foreign Affairs has received great attention at home and abroad and has become an important reference for many countries to formulate their China policies. It is also an important document in many national libraries.
The 2019 edition is divided into nine chapters, including "the international situation of 2018", "China’s diplomacy in 2018", "China and the countries of diplomatic relations", "the relationship between China and international and regional organizations", “arms control and non-proliferation work” and the " treaty and legal work in China's diplomacy".
It provides an accurate window into China's foreign policy and China's latest views on the international situation and provides a comprehensive picture of China's 2018 diplomatic relations.
Li Fan, counselor at the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed attendees at the event about the achievements that the ministry had made since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, among other things.
In addition, she presented the white paper to the publicity department of the Heilongjiang Provincial Party Committee, the Heilongjiang branch of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Heilongjiang Provincial Museum and Beidahuang Group.
