The Shenzhen (Harbin) Industrial Park started construction in Harbin on Sept 1. It highlights the cooperation achievements of Harbin and Shenzhen.

Harbin, known as “Ice City”, is located in China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province, and Shenzhen, the beacon of reform and opening-up in South China’s Guangdong province, established a strategic cooperation relationship in 2018 to accelerate industrial transformation.

The jointly-established industrial park is located in the Harbin New Zone and is within the jurisdiction of the newly-approved Harbin Area of the Heilongjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone. It will cover an area of 26 square kilometers and focus on the development of four industrial clusters related to new-generation information technology, new materials, modern services, and intelligent manufacturing.

Construction on the park will be divided into several phases, beginning with the 1.53-sq-km core area that has already started construction. It will include a science and technology innovation center costing 3.94 billion yuan ($549.4 million).

A groundbreaking ceremony for the park took place in the Harbin New Zone on Sept 1. It was attended by government officials of Heilongjiang and Guangdong provinces, including Zhang Qingwei, Party secretary of Heilongjiang province, Wang Wentao, governor of Heilongjiang, Wang Weizhong, vice Party secretary of Guangdong province, and Wang Zhaoli, Party secretary of Harbin.
