Harbin Transportation Group on Oct 15 announced the suspension of all ferry services on the Harbin section of Songhua River.

With the onset of winter, the water level on the river has continued to fall as the water starts to freeze, the company said.

The situation is no longer suitable for the safe operation of ferries, according to a staff member from Harbin Transportation Group.

All the boats will be maintained over winter and ferry crews will receive professional training in preparation for next season.
