Harbin in China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province will have an additional general airport in the future, in the wake of the green light given to the application for Harbin Mulan General Airport, local officials said.

They said it received approval from the Heilongjiang Provincial Development and Reform Committee.

The general airport will be constructed in Jianguo town in Mulan county in Harbin.

When it is running it will mainly be used for non-commercial passenger and charters in areas of operation including aerial photography, aerial mapping and agricultural and forest spraying.

Construction of the airport will involve a 900-meter long and 30 meter-wide runway, eight aircraft parking bays, a 4,000-square-meter comprehensive services building, a 1,100-square-meter hangar.

The airport will also come with support facilities such as navigation lighting, air traffic control towers, as well as facilities for fire protection, power supplies, water supplies and aviation fuel supplies.

Officials said the airport has already received sufficient funding from the Civil Aviation Development Fund and the government of Mulan county and is awaiting the issuing of engineering tenders.
