Harbin Engineering University and a company affiliated to the campus donated a raft of air purification and disinfection equipment with a sterilization rate of more than 99.6 percent to Wuhan -- the epicenter of the epidemic in China -- according to university officials on Feb 9.

The FG-BG-100 air purification and disinfection equipment is produced by Harbin Engineering University Ship Equipment Technology Co.

The kit activates a special gas using a high-voltage pulse discharge to generate a large amount of ionic oxygen, which can oxidize other harmful molecules within a thousandth of a second under the transient high energy of high-energy electrons.

Meanwhile, it can destroy peripheral structures such as viruses, mold spores, bacteria, or cell walls, thereby achieving rapid sterilization.

University officials said that it has passed application inspection and testing, as well as certification of the professional medical research institute -- proving its reliable quality and convenient application.

Similar equipment is widely used in the closed cabin ambient air treatment of modern ships.

Officials said the equipment donated for Wuhan can be used in isolated areas, medical areas, fever clinics and other places that require air sterilization to block the aerosol transmission of viruses with high efficiency.
