The last local patient with the novel coronavirus pneumonia in the city of Harbin in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province was pronounced cured and discharged from Harbin Infectious Disease Hospital on March 22, according to local officials on March 23.

They said it marked a great victory in the city’s control of and fight against the outbreak with local cases, although two confirmed overseas imported cases remain in Harbin.

The last local patient, surnamed Chen, 44, was the last and the 94th confirmed local case in Harbin.

Officials said Chen had a history of close contact with former confirmed patients and was then diagnosed as a new case.

With the hospital's full treatment and careful care, Chen’s body temperature returned to normal, respiratory symptoms disappeared, lung imaging became normal and the nucleic acid test for two consecutive times showed negative.

Chen was evaluated by the provincial expert group and was found to meet the discharge standard for cure. The patient was discharged on March 22 and the went into quarantine and medical observation.

Officials said that from 0:00 to 24:00 on March 22, there was no report of a new confirmed, suspected case or death in Heilongjiang. There are still five confirmed cases in the province: two imported cases in Harbin, one in Qiqihar, one in Heihe and one in the Greater Khingan Range region.
