The 2020 Harbin Ice and Snow Tourism Development Seminar was held in Harbin, capital city of China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province, in the form of a video conference on March 31, according to local officials.

It was sponsored by the Harbin culture, radio, television and tourism bureau and it served a platform for discussion on the new development trajectory of Harbin’s ice and snow-themed tourism industry in the current economic and novel coronavirus epidemic situation.

A total of 11 experts in the fields of architecture, art, tourism, city lighting and communications provided advice and suggestions for Harbin’s tourism development – focusing on the tourism industry layout, activity planning, marketing, operations, architecture and designs.

Participants conducted in-depth discussions on such topics as positioning and development of ice and snow tourism projects, creative methods and practices at ice theme parks, brand image management and expansion of ice and snow scenic spots and the incubation and operation of independent brands for ice and snow tourism projects.

They also analyzed the transformation of traditional scenic spots, the promotion of the tourism industry through new media formats and explored the high-quality development of ice and snow tourist attractions after the coronavirus epidemic.

The conference pointed out that Harbin was the earliest city in China to develop ice and snow tourism.

Attendees said ice and snow tourism has given Harbin a unique splendor and the image of the city has also become more distinctive. They added that Harbin has become the premier ice and snow tourism destination in China.

Although the epidemic has impacted the entire ice and snow tourism industry in Harbin, it still shows a steady and positive development trend, attendees said.
