The 33rd Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo is scheduled to open to the public on Dec 20.
This year’s expo has a theme of "integration of ice and snow, go together with joy." Around 90,000 cubic meters of snow are expected to be used to carve snow sculptures.
The expo’s display area for snow sculptures will be divided into six zones and one park. It will feature snow structures with interactive functions such as tobogganing.
The central snow sculpture at the expo is called "Chinese Dragon."
The person in charge of the expo introduced that the construction of the snow sculptures will last around 10 days.
Snow sculptors are currently working 12 hours a day – from 6 am to 8 pm – to make as much progress as possible. Around 50 percent of the snow sculpture carving work has been finished.
In addition to snow sculpture sightseeing, the expo will host a series of activities to celebrate New Year’s Day and the Lantern Festival.
Ticket prices for the expo have been revealed. A single ticket from Dec 20 to Dec 31 will be 130 yuan ($19.50), while the price will be 220 yuan from Jan 1 till the closing day.
Registered residents of Harbin and other qualified individuals will enjoy a preferential ticket price of 110 yuan per person.
