The No 2 unit of the Dubai Hassyan 4×600 megawatt clean coal power station – constructed by China’s leading power equipment producer – was recently connected to Dubai’s power grid despite difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The construction of the power station, which is located at the seaside more than 30 kilometers south of Dubai, started in January 2017 and was undertaken by Harbin Electric International Co based in Harbin, the capital of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province.

It’s the first investment project by the Silk Road Fund in the Middle East and is the first clean coal-fired power station in the region.

The power station is equipped with four ultra-supercritical units of total installed capacity of 2,400 MW, which can burn coal or natural gas to create backup fuel.

When the four units are put into commercial operation in 2023, the power station will provide 20 percent of Dubai's electricity energy and become the world's first power station to achieve dual-fuel full-load power supply.
