On Dec 1, 2012, the Harbin-Dalian High-Speed Railway (HSR), the world's first high-speed railway operated at high latitudes and low temperatures, started operating.
The 921-kilometer Harbin-Dalian HSR passes through Harbin, Changchun in Jilin province, and Shenyang and Dalian in Liaoning province.
The HSR forms a one-hour commuting circle among the aforementioned cities in Northeast China, making travel throughout the region much more convenient.
That same day, the Harbin West High-speed Railway Station, the first HSR station in Heilongjiang province, opened.
It is a huge and comprehensive transportation hub integrating dedicated railway passenger lines, urban rail transit, public transportation, and other facilities. Around 10 million people travel through the station every year.
Following the opening of the Harbin-Dalian HSR, the first metro line in Harbin started trial operations on Sept 26, 2013.
On Dec 26, 2020, the first phase of Harbin's Metro Line 2 and the southeastern circle of the second phase of Metro Line 3 began operating.
As of May 26, 2021, the Harbin Metro system has been safely operating for 2,800 days. Since its opening, 561.64 million trips have been made by Harbin Lines 1 and 3.
