Harbin projects recognized at national science, tech awards

Among the 12 award-winning projects were five second prizes for State technological invention and seven second prizes for State scientific and technological progress.
The projects covered the fields of equipment manufacturing, new materials, new energy and environmental protection, as well as biological engineering.
The scientific and technological achievements are said to reflect the fact that Harbin has achieved consistent results in improving its scientific and technological innovation capabilities and overcoming major technical obstacles.
It is understood that the national science and technology awards include the State Scientific & Technological Progress, the State Technological Invention, the State Preeminent Science & Technology, the State Natural Science and the China International Science & Technology Cooperation Awards.
Of these, the highest-profile one is the State Preeminent Science & Technology Award.
Since its establishment in 1999, a total of 33 scientists have received that honor.
Of these, Sun Jiadong from the Harbin Institute of Technology and local academician Liu Yongtan, a new system radar expert, won the 2009 and 2018 State Preeminent Science & Technology Awards, respectively.
