To celebrate the fifth Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival on Sept 23, the city of Harbin in China's northernmost Heilongjiang province staged a series of great activities.

The main site was set up in the Harbin Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The activities included agricultural product tastings and exhibitions of harvested products and there was also a signing ceremony for sci-tech commercialization projects.

More than 60 categories of products developed by the Harbin Academy of Agricultural Sciences went on display – including grain crops, livestock and poultry products and agricultural machinery.

Meanwhile, around 20 agricultural products were made into dishes on site for people to taste them.

Elsewhere, the Harbin Academy of Agricultural Sciences signed commercial deals with Da Bei Nong Group, Heilongjiang Tiankun Biotechnology Co and the Heilongjiang Cross-Straits Green Food Marketing Center.

Featuring vast fields and fertile soil, Harbin is famous for its quality agricultural output.

In particular, the county-level city of Wuchang – administered by Harbin – has cultivated the No 2 Daohuaxiang rice variety, which is widely recognized by the market and it has established its own rice brand, Wuchang Rice.

Wuchang has established a total of 1.37 million mu (91,333 hectares) of high-grade farmland, with an annual output of 700,000 metric tons of premium-quality rice and the rice industry alone has achieved an income of 11 billion yuan (1.65 billion) annually.

In 2022, the brand value of Wuchang Rice has reached 71.03 billion yuan, a result which means it has ranked first in the country's landmark rice category for seven consecutive years.
