Harbin makes progress in black soil protection

According to information from the Harbin bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, as of 2022, Harbin completed a cumulative investment of 12.04 billion yuan ($1.70 billion) and built 11 million mu (733,333.33 hectares) of high-standard farmland, accounting for more than 40 percent of the permanent farmland area in the city.
Several effective measures have been taken to boost farmland protection.
In 2022, Harbin invested 534 million yuan to complete the treatment of 2,305 erosion ditches; in 2023, plans are for Harbin to invest another 490 million yuan to control 1,474 erosion ditches.
From 2018 to 2022, Harbin's accumulated subsoiling area accounted for more than 80 percent of the city's cultivated land area.
Since 2019, the utilization rate of straw returning to the field in Harbin has exceeded 65 percent for three consecutive years.
Additionally, to promote the green development of agricultural production, Harbin has invested more than 15 million yuan in total, building 14 pesticide packaging waste recycling transfer centers and 1,671 stations, and recycled 3,012 metric tons of pesticide packaging waste, realizing the collection of all receivables.
In 2022, Harbin's green organic agricultural product area reached 11.1 million mu, and the city's soybean planting area came in at 3.52 million mu.
