According to the Harbin bureau of industry and information technology, the city plans to build 4,500 new 5G base stations in 2024. To date, 1,648 of them have already been completed.
By the end of the year, the total number of 5G base stations in Harbin is expected to exceed 30,000.
This expansion will ensure comprehensive coverage of main urban areas in counties and county-level cities, creating a new framework where "hotspot" areas are supported by multiple networks and remote regions have at least one reliable network.
In preparation for the Asian Winter Games, communication network services have been rigorously tested across 50 venues. Through mobile communication signal tests and thorough inspections of communication equipment, 76 potential issues have been identified and rectified.
In addition to venue-specific preparations, the city is also addressing broader communication challenges.
Efforts are underway to enhance coverage in critical areas such as the Tianhengshan Tunnel, the alpine tracks in the Yabuli competition zone, the Asia Snow Highway, and the Harbin-Mudanjiang High-Speed Railway. Projects to improve network coverage in elevators and underground spaces in key areas are also being implemented.
