As of Sept 8, the 13 airports in Heilongjiang province have collectively handled 20.05 million passengers, reaching the 20 million mark 35 days earlier than in 2023.
Harbin Taiping International Airport, in the provincial capital of Harbin, handled 16.59 million passengers alone, a 15.9 percent increase from the previous year.
Since the beginning of the year, Heilongjiang Airports Management Group Co has capitalized on the recovery of the international market and expanded its international route network.
The focus has been on establishing air corridors to Russia, Japan, and South Korea, with new routes to Krasnoyarsk and Blagoveshchensk and increased flights to Vladivostok and Irkutsk.
Domestically, the company has opened direct flights from Harbin to cities such as Lanzhou, Urumqi, and Altay.
It has also increased the frequency of flights to Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Haikou, Qingdao, and Hangzhou.
Efforts have been made to coordinate with airlines to deploy wide-body aircraft like the A330 and B787 on routes to Beijing, Guangzhou, and Seoul, South Korea.
