If you are looking for a place to experience the seasonal joys of experiencing the transition from winter to spring, Fenghuang Mountain National Forest Park in Harbin is a must destination.

Fenghuang Mountain National Forest Park covers an area of 50,000 hectares, with 89 hills of more than 1,000 meters above sea level, including a main peak 1,690 m above sea level –– the highest peak in Heilongjiang province.

The park has two scenic areas: Fenghuang Mountain Alpine Garden and Fenghuang Mountain Grand Gorge, which are famous for their pristine environment and exotic natural landscapes.

Affected by the warm and humid airflows from Japan and the cold air from Lake Baikal, Fenghuang Mountain scenic area has a unique mountain microclimate, where the temperature is 6 to 8 degrees lower all year round than that of Harbin’s urban area.

Currently, the base of the mountain is entering its best season for flowers, with different varieties blooming in bright colors and charming visitors with their fragrances.

At the same time, areas at the higher altitudes are still enveloped in winter scenes; around 10 ice waterfalls and a 100-meter long ice tunnel remain for tourists to take in. The ice and snow landscapes are anticipated to last until mid-May.

In addition, to provide better services for tourists, the Fenghuang Mountain park not only invested 20 million yuan ($2.97 million) to replace a boardwalk in what is known as its sky garden and in grand gorge scenic spots, but it also invested 11 million yuan to build a 2000-meter hand-push rail slide in the sky garden scenic spot.

Meanwhile, a UFO themed scenic spot -- which has undergone a three-year construction -- will unveil its mysteries to tourists this August, said Zhang Yu, manager of Fenghuang Mountain Tourism Co Ltd.

At present, the 5 kilometer cement surface ring road in the UFO scenic area has been completed, the 3.7 km solid wood boardwalk has been laid out, and a visitor center has also been completed.
