Harbin’s tourism industry thrives over Dragon Boat Festival holiday

Tourists made 1.79 million trips to Harbin, the capital city of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province, over the Dragon Boat Festival holiday on June 12-14, Harbin Daily reported.

Big data from Union Pay shows that, during the three-day holiday, Harbin's consumption amount related to the tourism economy reached 1.11 billion yuan ($166.54 million), increasing 30.28 percent over the same period in 2019. Trips made to Harbin city accounted for more than 40 percent of tourists visiting Heilongjiang province.

According to Meituan, the country's largest on-demand service platform, Harbin's consumption during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday increased by 28.66 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

Also, the city's scale of consumption ranked 26th in the country. The consumption of scenic spot tickets citywide increased by 69.92 percent, and that of accommodation increased by 80.87 percent.

Meanwhile, from June 12 to 14, Harbin Taiping International Airport experienced significant passenger flow growth, handling 1,172 flights and witnessing a passenger increase of 1.5 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

Statistics show that the number of tourists received at popular scenic spots has recovered significantly compared with 2020. Ten popular scenic spots, including the Sun Island scenic area, the Central Avenue and Volga Manor, received 695,600 tourist visits in total.
