The annual ice and snow carnival officially opened on Dec 2 at Dejia Wharf in Harbin city and is expected to run for 60 days.

To enhance visitor satisfaction, this year's carnival has undergone a comprehensive upgrade in terms of overall amusement project planning, snow sculpture attractions, ice sculpture art, and services and safety.

The number of projects has increased by 11 on the basis of 33 from previous years.

The official in charge of the carnival said this year's edition also features a 20-meter-tall snowman.

The snowman is depicted as being more animated than in previous incarnations, holding a torch in one hand to symbolize the city's successful bid to host the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025. Other highlights include a 300-meter-long ice slide.
