A road connecting to Haxi Avenue in Harbin, capital of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province, opened to traffic on June 28 after experiencing a 19-month construction period.

The 1,321-meter road is located in the city's Nangang district. It starts from Suihua Road, passes through Yichun Road and the railroads of Harbin South Railway Station before finally arriving at Haxi Avenue.

The road will break through regional traffic barriers at Harbin South Railway Station and connect the Haxi area and the city's Third Ring Road, enhancing the comprehensive transportation capacity of the Haxi road network.

The Haxi Bridge, an important part of the project, has created four domestic records.

It is the heaviest swivel bridge in high latitudes and extremely cold areas in China, with a maximum swivel weight of 29,000 metric tons.

It also crosses the largest number of operating railroads in the country, with 48 railroads at Harbin South Railway Station being crossed.

In addition, it has the most unbalanced swivel weight among such bridges, and has the most accurate (centimeter-level) domestic rotation accuracy control.

The 434-meter bridge has three lanes in each direction.

In order to overcome technical problems during the construction of the Haxi Bridge, 15 new technologies and processes were applied. Among them, three had been declared for national patents and will serve as valuable references for the construction of China's overweight swivel bridges.
